Canada’s Next Drink Trend: Sake for Spring!

Step aside spritz, this spring is all about sake!

With Japanese cuisine being all the craze across Canada as seen in the 2024 Michelin guides, it’s time to shift our attention to the National spirit that deserves a moment in the spotlight: sake!

While Canadians have embraced Japanese food and flavours, sake is still largely untapped—and that’s about to change.

Enter Michael Tremblay, one of only two sake Samurais in Canada, who is on a mission to help Canadians discover the world of sake.

Whether it’s a chilled Ginjo for a refreshing sip, a tangy Yuzu for that citrus kick, or a comforting Junmai that wraps you in warmth–Michael wants Canadians to know that sake is not only great with sushi but pairs seamlessly with a variety of flavours and cuisines.

With availability remaining low in Canada, the Japanese External Trade Organization and the Consulate General of Japan recently hosted an immersive cultural experience to help Canadians discover sake. With expert-led tastings with the Sake Samurai, traditional food pairings, and live cultural performances, Canadians left with a deeper appreciation and understanding of this ancient spirit.

So as you kick off spring this year, let Sake take the stage. Kanpai!
